They have done everything right, they have lived responsible, respectable lives.
They are loosing everything they have and their hopes for a secure future through no fault of their own.
I can truthfully say I have been through these trials myself and am experiencing them now too. We are innocent victims of careless people's ruthlessness, incompetence and greed.
Hearing our experiences will be "character building" that we'll "learn to enjoy and appreciate new things" or that we'll emerge "stronger and wiser" sound like hideous, insulting platitudes.
While this may be true on some level, it doesn't help heal the pain or recoup their losses.
What encouraging words can be offered to help people cope and conquer the pain of their loss?
